2009 sees Jason return to haunt the shallow waters and damp

February 2, 2009 08:00 by Admin
2009 sees Jason return to haunt the shallow waters and damp, squeaky wooden houses at Camp Crystal Lake in the latest retake on Friday the 13th. The movies’ promos had been release about a month back and people are getting excited over the prospect of seeing Amanda Righetti square-off against that masked freak (Jason). Amanda isn’t all together new to this sort of a role. She did star in the as the leading lady in Return to House on Haunted Hill. That experience would do her good as she is going to be spooked (much, more I would say) by Jason and the creepy surroundings of Crystal Lake. Yes, this time too Friday the 13th will have innocent campers who just can’t avoid getting their guts splattered but with much less making-out scenes (I wonder why??).    This adaptation of Friday the 13th has been completed in about a year (2008). This was also the year that saw Amanda grow in stature, starring as Grace Van Pelt in the CBS hit series ‘The Mentalist’. Amanda has been catching eyeballs for some time now. She was impressive during her short stints in CSI, The O.C. and The North Shore too. If Friday the 13th does well, it could easily be Amanda’s stepping stone towards bagging big-time Hollywood projects.

see Friday the 13th with a major twist

February 2, 2009 08:00 by Admin
It was a case of natural progression I guess, when the story for the newest version of Friday the 13th was being scripted. The earlier sequels that followed the original had become very repetitive and at one time they even let Jason out in the City!! How could they do that to Crystal Lake’s most popular resident? What I mean is that the recent trend has been to go back and explain the origins of the movie’s central character. As it happens, 2009 will see Friday the 13th with a major twist. This time the story actually explores the making of Jason as the heartless and super-human beast and his mother’s sickening demeanour before unleashing the predictable carnage that is an integral part of every Friday the 13th movie. One more aspect that would make this movie different from earlier remakes of Friday the 13th is a leading lady who is instantly recognisable — I mean, Amanda Righetti. She makes her presence felt even in the small promos/video clips that are gathering momentum as the release of the movie draw nearer. For Amanda too, it must be a case of moving ahead, as she looks definitely more than just another TV star. Amanda has the skills (and the body I should add) to make it big and perhaps, slugging it out with Jason might just be the stepping stone she needs to announce herself as a performer.

This credible-looking remake of Friday The 13th

February 2, 2009 07:59 by Admin
2009’s first foray into horror movies begins with a remake of the original Friday The 13th .This isn’t an extension of the series of sequels that followed the original. Instead, this will be a different take on the original story, with more digging into Jasons’ horrifying past. This credible-looking remake of Friday The 13th has been directed by Marcus Nispel — no stranger to making blood curdling massacre movies. He has been associated with remakes of ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’. Set for a February 13th release, the movie also traces the relationship between Jason and his maniac mother. Perhaps, this is one remake which is bound to be good. Just look at the team that is handling the project — along with Michael Bay and Nispel, you have the screenplay writers of the last movie in the Friday the 13th series, i.e. Freddy vs. Jason. Amanda Righetti will be portraying the female lead and her character of Whitney is central to the resistance that is put up against Jason. Amanda has seen her acting scale rising with many appreciated performances as Grace Pelt in the hit CBS TV series — The Mentalist. Amanda even admitted that she didn’t actually read the script when accepting this movie. Just being a part of the Friday the 13th franchise and the presence of Michael Bay were sufficient for her.

I am a big fan of Friday the 13th series

February 2, 2009 07:58 by Admin
When it comes to slasher movies, I am a big fan of Friday the 13th series. I still find it difficult to understand why people can’t comprehend that to have a good slasher you need some nudity, stupidity and lots of college/high school folks to get butchered. Friday the 13th has always had these and I must say that Kane Hodder (as Jason) in 7th, 8th and 9th part of the series was amazing. He was a stuntman by profession and that translated into his body language of being a convincing killer.  Now, the latest of the series, actually a remake by Michael Bay, is being released this February and I hope Derek Mears (the new Jason) does justice to the brutality of his character that is so central to Friday the 13th. Another factor that may work in the favour of the movie is the presence of Amanda Righetti. I have been following her ascent in Hollywood since her days of making special appearances in CSI and this is definitely a role she can deliver. Amanda has this amazing on-screen presence and it would be great to see her try and fight-off Jason’s madness. Amanda would benefit from the presence of a very capable director in Marcus Nispel.

As far as Friday the 13th is concerned

February 2, 2009 07:57 by Admin
To be very honest, it was Evil Dead and the original Friday the 13th which got me hooked as a horror-loving moviegoer. The sequels to both these movies weren’t as good as the original. As far as Friday the 13th is concerned, there have been an unbelievable number of very mediocre and sometimes entirely senseless so-called ‘sequels’. So, it was nice to see the teasers of the latest Friday the 13th. Jason does manage to look brutal carrying his sadistic machete with that improvised hockey mask on his face, hunting for his next prey. Some of the video promos are a bit reminiscent of the earlier Friday the 13th remakes with the seemingly dim-witted college campers being chased around but that is something you have to bear.  The star cast though has some major appeal to it in the form of Amanda Righetti. She may not be in the A-grade of Hollywood’s performers right now, but her guest appearances on The O.C. and Entourage are ample proof of her acting abilities. Amanda’s latest offing on TV, The Mentalist, has seen her reputation grow tremendously in 2008 that should augur well for the movie also. Amanda joins Jared Padaelecki (who plays her brother) and Derek Mears (as Jason).

‘Jason gets himself a Blonde’

February 2, 2009 07:57 by Admin
‘Jason gets himself a Blonde’ is what one of posters of the new Friday the 13th says with Jason staring at a blonde girl swimming in the lake (needless to mention it must be Crystal Lake). Set for release this February 13th, the movie has Derek Mears playing the role of Jason Voorhees and the production has been handled by Michael Bay. Sean Cunningham’s1980 original Friday the 13th was much-admired for the well-crafter murderous horror sequences. Now, it is said that M. Bay has expanded upon the character of Jason with more details about his past and his transformation into the deadly killing machine we know him as. The rest of the cast doesn’t really boast of big names but does have the very exciting Amanda Righetti who is sure to grab attention with her voluptuous, terror-stricken body being flipped around by Jason. Guys would remember Amanda as the young Hailey from ‘The O.C.’ or ‘Tessa’ from North Shore (what happened to that series?). Amanda had also featured in the FHM (men’s magazine) in 2004/2005 and trust me, she looks as good in the promos being aired. Amanda plays the role of ‘Whitney’ — a lady with some pluck who will fight Jason to defend her life and that of her co-stars.

Amanda Righetti finally gets her due as she plays the female lead in Michael Bay’s Friday the 13th

February 2, 2009 07:56 by Admin
Amanda Righetti finally gets her due as she plays the female lead in Michael Bay’s Friday the 13th. I guess it was only a matter of time before Amanda got some meaty roles and Friday the 13th could just give her the sort of limelight she had been searching for. Set for a February release, the latest among many remakes of the original 1980 masterpiece has Amanda playing the character of Whitney. The movie’s trailers do give some hint into the stylish yet very crude-looking murder sequences and the heightened level of gut-wrenching twists that have been added to the original plot. Amanda’s character is the sister of Clay (Jared Padalecki) who loses herself in the woods surrounding Crystal Lake where another set of campers have arrived, unaware of Jason lurking in the shadows and intent on tearing them apart. Amanda has held her own in the past when she appeared on TV shows like The O.C. and Entourage and this is her chance to get noticed by the big studios. What could prove definitive is the presence of Michael Bay in the production. He is known to bring his own sense of slickness and this retake on Friday the 13th should be no exception.

Michael Bay’s remake of Friday The 13th

February 2, 2009 07:55 by Admin
The posters and images from Michael Bay’s remake of Friday The 13th give an impression that this movie is going to be more graphic and violent than any of its predecessors. It could be just my knee-jerk reaction but nearly every video promo does hint to this. Jason’s mask in the posters looks slightly altered although the basic shape remains the same. In fact, it looks scarier than ever before. This Friday the 13th promises not to be a disappointing remake and even the plot has been slightly altered to keep the audiences hooked. The movie stars he very talented Amanda Righetti as the female lead. When interviewed about the character of Jason with his mask on, Amanda admitted that it was creepy and it did make her nervous. If Friday the 13th does go on to do well, Amanda’s resume would get a huge boost which already has the CBS series ‘The Mentalist’ to boast about. Amanda’s character, Whitney, doesn’t just wait to get sliced by Jason. Instead, she fights him to save herself and her buddies.  There have been snippets appearing on the Internet about supporting actresses who dropped out of this latest attempt to revive the Friday the 13th franchise, objecting to nudity in the script. Like I said before, expect lots of blood being splashed around and some stupid topless blonde babes being chopped up!!
