Friday the 13th franchise has been a cult classic

February 2, 2009 07:54 by Admin
Friday the 13th franchise has been a cult classic for people who have been following the indestructible Jason coming back time and again to rip apart some more campers at Crystal Lake. The newest remake of the classic original will be released by Paramount in February. The movie is surely creepy but that is something integral to Friday the 13th movies. Nearly every video, promo and poster justifies this impression. I guess things have changed drastically since the original was made. Movies that are able to trace the creation of a monster tend to be received better than the audiences and this is something this chapter of Friday the 13th tries to do as Jason’s history is delved into. Our moviegoers have got used to more gory and violent sort of horror movies and this is where the new Friday the 13th will have to compete. However, one thing that is in its favour is the presence of a very notable leading lady — Amanda Righetti. There is something very convincing about Amanda’s presence in the promos and hopefully she might end up doing what no other leads of Friday the 13th have ever done before — put an end to Jason’s rage. This is also Amanda’s latest attempt at succeeding in a major motion picture and a good opening could catapult her into Hollywood’s big league.

The eerie woods of Crystal Lake are back

February 2, 2009 07:54 by Admin
The eerie woods of Crystal Lake are back this season with its most infamous resident (don’t know what else to call him), Jason searching for his next prey. Yes, Friday the 13th returns as the latest in a long series of remakes/sequels that have been created to give horror movies the lost podium of their former glory days. However, the makers have tried to inculcate some changes this time. Indeed, Jason would still be ripping apart people (can we have a Friday the 13th without that?) but he is about to face some serious resistance. The confrontation will be pitched by Amanda Righetti who plays the role of Whitney. She is helped by Clay (Jared Padalecki) as they make the fatal mistake of stepping into Jason’s zone. Amanda has already had it pretty good with ‘The Mentalist’ and expectations are high from her. Hopefully, Amanda will deliver and so will Friday the 13th. The teasers promise lots of unanticipated twists and turns and Amanda manages to look really good. It wouldn’t be a bad idea if she becomes the leading star of Friday the 13th from now on. Remember Ripley in the Alien series? Why can’t we add that sort of a character to Friday the 13th?

Michael Bay and Marcus Nispel come together for a project

February 2, 2009 07:53 by Admin
Sean Cunningham wouldn’t have had the least bit of idea that his Friday The 13th (1980) was going to set benchmarks for horror flicks that were to follow his original. Many sequels and nearly 30 years after the original, Friday The 13th franchise finally gets a director and a production team who are competent of creating something capable of capturing audience attention like the original. What else do you expect when Michael Bay and Marcus Nispel come together for a project? The promos being aired already testify Bay’s influence with slick production and breathtaking close-ups.  Another factor that would make terror depicted in the new Friday The 13th more believable is the presence of Amanda Righetti as the leading lady, playing the character of Whitney. Amanda plays sister to the male lead and also the one who eventually gathers some courage to confront Jason. Amanda was often regarded as a sexy but model-like performer. However, she made constant strides performing short but noticeable roles in popular TV series such as The O.C. (playing Hailey) and Reunion (as Jenna). 2008 saw Amanda starring in ‘The Mentalist’ and her outstanding performance must have convinced the producers to sign her for this remake.

Jason doing what he does best

February 2, 2009 07:51 by Admin
When it comes to horror flicks, I am bit choosy about what I see. I prefer the 80’s sort of horror where you don’t end up throwing-up like it happened when watching the extreme brutality of ‘The Hostel’. Speaking of the 80’s, one of the most popular movies of this time was the Friday the 13th series and it is back this year with Jason doing what he does best — massacring people by the dozen. However, this time the treatment is a bit different, as was evident from the promos/trailers that have been aired so far.  For starters, this Friday the 13th doesn’t have everyone running away like crazy with Jason in the backdrop. For once, there are glimpses of the cast actually standing up to him. The chosen cast has a ring to it too. Remember Amanda Righetti? Yeah, the lady from ‘The Mentalist’ and O.C. She is the female lead which is better than using green-horn B listed actresses that were used in the earlier sequels of Friday the 13th franchise.  Amanda (as Whitney) looks just right for the role. She looks terrorised yet capable of springing up a surprise on Jason. The other cast members aren’t as well-known but I guess with Jason splitting apart people and the sexy Amanda to gawk at not much else was needed.

Jason’s madness would be challenged by Amanda Righetti

February 2, 2009 07:50 by Admin
Call me a horror-obsessed nerd if you want to but I still look forward to every remake that promises lots of gore. So, I am hoping the new version of Friday the 13th by Marcus Nispel does justice to the benchmark that was set by the original. Teasers lately have tended to tell too much about the bumpy ride that a horror flick is but then again, it is a trend and has to be followed. I saw the trailers of Friday the 13th on YouTube and I must say they do manage to engage your attention.  Jason’s madness would be challenged by Amanda Righetti (who plays Whitney) as she desperately tries to leave Camp Crystal Lake’s alive. I watched the trailer repeatedly and liked the background music which wasn’t too overboard. Amanda does look impressive (and sexy too!!) and this would be a welcome change to her image of Grace Van Pelt from the ‘The Mentalist’ — not that I am complaining, Amanda does an amazing job in the CBS series, but it was time for to re-invent herself.  Friday the 13th would be the first of horror movies for this year and hopefully it sets a precedent for movies of this genre that are good enough to bring people back to the movie halls, i.e. besides me, I am always there in my Halloween t-shirts.

2009 Friday The 13th

February 2, 2009 07:48 by Admin
I had been convinced for a long time that no matter what sort of a remake they try to do on Friday The 13th it wasn’t going to be good enough to make me want to see it in a big movie hall. I guess I have been proven wrong. The 2009 Friday The 13th trailers have got me hooked and curious as to how much hell is Jason going to unleash this time. The movie is set for release this 13th of February and the good news is that this remake is being handled under the supervision of Michael Bay. One can entrust him to do justice to the original, which set yardsticks for horror movies that followed it. Jason looks as menacing and purposeful about slaughtering people (girls especially) in the promos. Talking about the girls, this Friday The 13th has Amanda Righetti (Gosh! She is so God damn sexy) and I hope Jason does that ripping thing to her (I mean the clothes silly). On a more serious note, Amanda does look convincing as the beautiful but can-get-tough sort of leading ladies in the promo videos. I hope this helps Amanda break into the big league. Working with Michael Bay almost guarantees that anyway.

Looking forward for the release of Friday the 13th

February 2, 2009 07:47 by Admin
2009 doesn’t have too many great horror flicks queued up for released and thus people who are happy to see some good old gut-splashing being done are looking forward for the release of Friday the 13th this February. Critics are slamming Amanda Righetti for already having done ‘Return to House on Haunted Hill’ and now starring in the new Friday the 13th.  Some people are calling it being repetitive but I personally don’t find anything wrong with Amanda starring in another horror genre movie. My personal view? Amanda has been very good in whatever she has taken up, so what if this movie bears resemblance to an earlier project she did? How many times did we see Stallone boxing the daylights out his opponents in the ring? I love Amanda in the The Mentalist’ and she was equally convincing in ‘North Shore’. Friday the 13th could be the perfect movie for Amanda. She has it in her to carry the role of being Jason’s next supposed victim who ends up giving him the fight of a lifetime — at least, I hope she does. Friday the 13th would also provide Amanda a chance of displaying a different side to her and pitching her as a leading Hollywood lady.

Amanda Righetti on ‘The Mentalist’ (CBS)

January 28, 2009 11:45 by Admin
Everyone who has been admiring Amanda Righetti on ‘The Mentalist’ (CBS) has one big reason to cheer. She is going to be the female lead in the new version of Friday the 13th due to be released this February. Amanda has been making steady progress since her days of starring in the teenage-centred ‘O.C.’ and ‘CSI’. These shows rarely did Amanda any justice. Though, she is very appeasing as Grace Van Pelt in the ‘The Mentalist’, a proper female lead role was in order and that is what 2009’s Friday the 13th is going to do for her. The movie promises to be a bit different from the somewhat forgetful sequels that followed the original of 1980-81.  For instance, there would be no more hormone-heavy guys making out with their ladies in the creaky camps. Instead, the story revolves around Whitney (played by Amanda Righetti) who is lost in the woods around Crystal Lake and her brother goes around searching for her. The recently-aired promos of Friday the 13th show Amanda putting up some sort of resistance against the rampaging Jason. I hope Amanda ends up making Jason pay for his massacres and returns for another sequel. Sorry if this sounds too optimistic — I would personally hate to see any harm being done to this lady.

Friday the 13th is due for a new lease of life in 2009

January 28, 2009 11:44 by Admin
This is for all those of you who had been rooting for Freddy (from Nightmare on Elm Street) as the more fear-provoking, slaying bad guy over Jason. As it turns out, Friday the 13th is due for a new lease of life in 2009 — being released this February the 13th whereas Mr. Freddy is nowhere to be seen. Furthermore, this latest addition in the series of sequels that followed the original Friday the 13th has something different to offer. For starters, the cast of Friday the 13th (2009) won’t have a bunch of dumb folks who can only scream and do nothing besides panicking when facing Jason.  Instead, the plot has been re-written and has a concerned and brave bother (Clay) searching for his equally resourceful sister in the woods surrounding Crystal Lake — Jason’s permanent residence. It is the sister (Whitney) played by Amanda Righetti who is grabbing attention as far as the early promos and teasers are concerned. Amanda had every guy’s attention when she appeared in the North Shore and O.C. (popular TV series) and no wonder she finds herself in a major motion picture now. Friday the 13th gives Amanda Righetti ample chance to showcase her talent as the terror-stricken but audacious lady who dares to confront Jason.

Friday the 13th literally put Jason’s character on a horror genre’s pedestal

January 26, 2009 09:43 by Admin

The unexpected success of 1980’s original Friday the 13th literally put Jason’s character on a horror genre’s pedestal along with the likes of Freddy and that ‘Predator’ freak. There were some sequels to the original, but after some time, most of them got a bit repetitive and 2009 promises a more absorbing trip back to Crystal Lake — Jason’s home and hunting ground.

Recently shown promos of Friday the 13th have rotting and creaking cabins, thick, blinding vegetation and hapless cast members running around trying to escape Jason’s wrath. I guess these are must-haves to make Jason look more frightening as just having that demonic mask wouldn’t be as effective on minds that have been numbed to special effect ridden genre of horror movies lately.

This is where the cast of Friday the 13th assumes importance and so does Amanda Righetti — the lady who plays the distraught character of Whitney. She plays the typicalsufferer but with some quality to the protagonist. Her face and expressions look as if she is tailor-made for this role. Amanda Righetti exudes that sensitivity combined with an understated ability of being pretty tough when things go really bad and they do — after all she’s in Friday the 13th— what else needs to go wrong?? For those who haven’t seen her before, you would know why she has been voted twice among the World’s Most Sexy Women (2005 & 2006).
