see Friday the 13th with a major twist

February 2, 2009 08:00 by Admin
It was a case of natural progression I guess, when the story for the newest version of Friday the 13th was being scripted. The earlier sequels that followed the original had become very repetitive and at one time they even let Jason out in the City!! How could they do that to Crystal Lake’s most popular resident? What I mean is that the recent trend has been to go back and explain the origins of the movie’s central character. As it happens, 2009 will see Friday the 13th with a major twist. This time the story actually explores the making of Jason as the heartless and super-human beast and his mother’s sickening demeanour before unleashing the predictable carnage that is an integral part of every Friday the 13th movie. One more aspect that would make this movie different from earlier remakes of Friday the 13th is a leading lady who is instantly recognisable — I mean, Amanda Righetti. She makes her presence felt even in the small promos/video clips that are gathering momentum as the release of the movie draw nearer. For Amanda too, it must be a case of moving ahead, as she looks definitely more than just another TV star. Amanda has the skills (and the body I should add) to make it big and perhaps, slugging it out with Jason might just be the stepping stone she needs to announce herself as a performer.

I am a big fan of Friday the 13th series

February 2, 2009 07:58 by Admin
When it comes to slasher movies, I am a big fan of Friday the 13th series. I still find it difficult to understand why people can’t comprehend that to have a good slasher you need some nudity, stupidity and lots of college/high school folks to get butchered. Friday the 13th has always had these and I must say that Kane Hodder (as Jason) in 7th, 8th and 9th part of the series was amazing. He was a stuntman by profession and that translated into his body language of being a convincing killer.  Now, the latest of the series, actually a remake by Michael Bay, is being released this February and I hope Derek Mears (the new Jason) does justice to the brutality of his character that is so central to Friday the 13th. Another factor that may work in the favour of the movie is the presence of Amanda Righetti. I have been following her ascent in Hollywood since her days of making special appearances in CSI and this is definitely a role she can deliver. Amanda has this amazing on-screen presence and it would be great to see her try and fight-off Jason’s madness. Amanda would benefit from the presence of a very capable director in Marcus Nispel.

As far as Friday the 13th is concerned

February 2, 2009 07:57 by Admin
To be very honest, it was Evil Dead and the original Friday the 13th which got me hooked as a horror-loving moviegoer. The sequels to both these movies weren’t as good as the original. As far as Friday the 13th is concerned, there have been an unbelievable number of very mediocre and sometimes entirely senseless so-called ‘sequels’. So, it was nice to see the teasers of the latest Friday the 13th. Jason does manage to look brutal carrying his sadistic machete with that improvised hockey mask on his face, hunting for his next prey. Some of the video promos are a bit reminiscent of the earlier Friday the 13th remakes with the seemingly dim-witted college campers being chased around but that is something you have to bear.  The star cast though has some major appeal to it in the form of Amanda Righetti. She may not be in the A-grade of Hollywood’s performers right now, but her guest appearances on The O.C. and Entourage are ample proof of her acting abilities. Amanda’s latest offing on TV, The Mentalist, has seen her reputation grow tremendously in 2008 that should augur well for the movie also. Amanda joins Jared Padaelecki (who plays her brother) and Derek Mears (as Jason).

‘Jason gets himself a Blonde’

February 2, 2009 07:57 by Admin
‘Jason gets himself a Blonde’ is what one of posters of the new Friday the 13th says with Jason staring at a blonde girl swimming in the lake (needless to mention it must be Crystal Lake). Set for release this February 13th, the movie has Derek Mears playing the role of Jason Voorhees and the production has been handled by Michael Bay. Sean Cunningham’s1980 original Friday the 13th was much-admired for the well-crafter murderous horror sequences. Now, it is said that M. Bay has expanded upon the character of Jason with more details about his past and his transformation into the deadly killing machine we know him as. The rest of the cast doesn’t really boast of big names but does have the very exciting Amanda Righetti who is sure to grab attention with her voluptuous, terror-stricken body being flipped around by Jason. Guys would remember Amanda as the young Hailey from ‘The O.C.’ or ‘Tessa’ from North Shore (what happened to that series?). Amanda had also featured in the FHM (men’s magazine) in 2004/2005 and trust me, she looks as good in the promos being aired. Amanda plays the role of ‘Whitney’ — a lady with some pluck who will fight Jason to defend her life and that of her co-stars.

Amanda Righetti finally gets her due as she plays the female lead in Michael Bay’s Friday the 13th

February 2, 2009 07:56 by Admin
Amanda Righetti finally gets her due as she plays the female lead in Michael Bay’s Friday the 13th. I guess it was only a matter of time before Amanda got some meaty roles and Friday the 13th could just give her the sort of limelight she had been searching for. Set for a February release, the latest among many remakes of the original 1980 masterpiece has Amanda playing the character of Whitney. The movie’s trailers do give some hint into the stylish yet very crude-looking murder sequences and the heightened level of gut-wrenching twists that have been added to the original plot. Amanda’s character is the sister of Clay (Jared Padalecki) who loses herself in the woods surrounding Crystal Lake where another set of campers have arrived, unaware of Jason lurking in the shadows and intent on tearing them apart. Amanda has held her own in the past when she appeared on TV shows like The O.C. and Entourage and this is her chance to get noticed by the big studios. What could prove definitive is the presence of Michael Bay in the production. He is known to bring his own sense of slickness and this retake on Friday the 13th should be no exception.

Friday the 13th franchise has been a cult classic

February 2, 2009 07:54 by Admin
Friday the 13th franchise has been a cult classic for people who have been following the indestructible Jason coming back time and again to rip apart some more campers at Crystal Lake. The newest remake of the classic original will be released by Paramount in February. The movie is surely creepy but that is something integral to Friday the 13th movies. Nearly every video, promo and poster justifies this impression. I guess things have changed drastically since the original was made. Movies that are able to trace the creation of a monster tend to be received better than the audiences and this is something this chapter of Friday the 13th tries to do as Jason’s history is delved into. Our moviegoers have got used to more gory and violent sort of horror movies and this is where the new Friday the 13th will have to compete. However, one thing that is in its favour is the presence of a very notable leading lady — Amanda Righetti. There is something very convincing about Amanda’s presence in the promos and hopefully she might end up doing what no other leads of Friday the 13th have ever done before — put an end to Jason’s rage. This is also Amanda’s latest attempt at succeeding in a major motion picture and a good opening could catapult her into Hollywood’s big league.

Jason doing what he does best

February 2, 2009 07:51 by Admin
When it comes to horror flicks, I am bit choosy about what I see. I prefer the 80’s sort of horror where you don’t end up throwing-up like it happened when watching the extreme brutality of ‘The Hostel’. Speaking of the 80’s, one of the most popular movies of this time was the Friday the 13th series and it is back this year with Jason doing what he does best — massacring people by the dozen. However, this time the treatment is a bit different, as was evident from the promos/trailers that have been aired so far.  For starters, this Friday the 13th doesn’t have everyone running away like crazy with Jason in the backdrop. For once, there are glimpses of the cast actually standing up to him. The chosen cast has a ring to it too. Remember Amanda Righetti? Yeah, the lady from ‘The Mentalist’ and O.C. She is the female lead which is better than using green-horn B listed actresses that were used in the earlier sequels of Friday the 13th franchise.  Amanda (as Whitney) looks just right for the role. She looks terrorised yet capable of springing up a surprise on Jason. The other cast members aren’t as well-known but I guess with Jason splitting apart people and the sexy Amanda to gawk at not much else was needed.

Jason’s madness would be challenged by Amanda Righetti

February 2, 2009 07:50 by Admin
Call me a horror-obsessed nerd if you want to but I still look forward to every remake that promises lots of gore. So, I am hoping the new version of Friday the 13th by Marcus Nispel does justice to the benchmark that was set by the original. Teasers lately have tended to tell too much about the bumpy ride that a horror flick is but then again, it is a trend and has to be followed. I saw the trailers of Friday the 13th on YouTube and I must say they do manage to engage your attention.  Jason’s madness would be challenged by Amanda Righetti (who plays Whitney) as she desperately tries to leave Camp Crystal Lake’s alive. I watched the trailer repeatedly and liked the background music which wasn’t too overboard. Amanda does look impressive (and sexy too!!) and this would be a welcome change to her image of Grace Van Pelt from the ‘The Mentalist’ — not that I am complaining, Amanda does an amazing job in the CBS series, but it was time for to re-invent herself.  Friday the 13th would be the first of horror movies for this year and hopefully it sets a precedent for movies of this genre that are good enough to bring people back to the movie halls, i.e. besides me, I am always there in my Halloween t-shirts.

2009 Friday The 13th

February 2, 2009 07:48 by Admin
I had been convinced for a long time that no matter what sort of a remake they try to do on Friday The 13th it wasn’t going to be good enough to make me want to see it in a big movie hall. I guess I have been proven wrong. The 2009 Friday The 13th trailers have got me hooked and curious as to how much hell is Jason going to unleash this time. The movie is set for release this 13th of February and the good news is that this remake is being handled under the supervision of Michael Bay. One can entrust him to do justice to the original, which set yardsticks for horror movies that followed it. Jason looks as menacing and purposeful about slaughtering people (girls especially) in the promos. Talking about the girls, this Friday The 13th has Amanda Righetti (Gosh! She is so God damn sexy) and I hope Jason does that ripping thing to her (I mean the clothes silly). On a more serious note, Amanda does look convincing as the beautiful but can-get-tough sort of leading ladies in the promo videos. I hope this helps Amanda break into the big league. Working with Michael Bay almost guarantees that anyway.

Friday the 13th literally put Jason’s character on a horror genre’s pedestal

January 26, 2009 09:43 by Admin

The unexpected success of 1980’s original Friday the 13th literally put Jason’s character on a horror genre’s pedestal along with the likes of Freddy and that ‘Predator’ freak. There were some sequels to the original, but after some time, most of them got a bit repetitive and 2009 promises a more absorbing trip back to Crystal Lake — Jason’s home and hunting ground.

Recently shown promos of Friday the 13th have rotting and creaking cabins, thick, blinding vegetation and hapless cast members running around trying to escape Jason’s wrath. I guess these are must-haves to make Jason look more frightening as just having that demonic mask wouldn’t be as effective on minds that have been numbed to special effect ridden genre of horror movies lately.

This is where the cast of Friday the 13th assumes importance and so does Amanda Righetti — the lady who plays the distraught character of Whitney. She plays the typicalsufferer but with some quality to the protagonist. Her face and expressions look as if she is tailor-made for this role. Amanda Righetti exudes that sensitivity combined with an understated ability of being pretty tough when things go really bad and they do — after all she’s in Friday the 13th— what else needs to go wrong?? For those who haven’t seen her before, you would know why she has been voted twice among the World’s Most Sexy Women (2005 & 2006).
